2018 Honda Civic Type R
We have the Civic Edmonton drivers want. Come see the latest Type R Civic for sale
Bred for the Track, Born for the Street
The “R” in the 2018 Civic Type R’s name stands for “Racing,” and at long last Canadian drivers can get behind the wheel of one of the most exciting Honda automobiles ever built. In fact, the Civic Type R isn’t just the sportiest Civic for sale; it’s the most powerful Honda ever sold in Canada. And here at Alberta Honda, we have the Civic Edmonton area drivers dream of.
Heritage and Horsepower
Born twenty years ago in Japan, the first Civic Type R brought Honda’s racing heritage to both the street and the track. You could drive your Type R to work or the market during the week, and then take it out on the track on the weekend. For 2018, this tradition continues with more power and more refinement than ever.
Under the hood, you’ll find a 2.0-litre, direct-injection 16-valve turbocharged four-cylinder engine with Honda’s famed VTEC variable valve timing technology. This potent powerplant delivers 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque to the pavement through 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels. And driving enthusiasts will love this: power is delivered through a genuine manual transmission, a rarity in the age of paddle shifters. Automatic rev matching is available to help with downshifts on track corners, but you can disable this feature if you prefer a fully manual shifting experience.
Where the Rubber Meets the Road–or Track
So what does this mean for performance numbers? Car and Driver recorded a 0-60 mph (96.5 kph) run in an astonishing 4.9 seconds, “with its amazing mix of performance and poise earning a spot on our 2018 10 Best Cars list.” The website Driving.ca was impressed by “the raw power available over a very broad range,” in a review in which the Civic Type R beat out the competition.
Normally, this much power in a front-wheel-drive car is a recipe for torque steer, but Honda’s Dual Axis front strut suspension keeps the Type R going in a straight line even under full throttle. This suspension also provides grip that’s good for 1.02 g on the skid pad. Its performance enhancements have made the Civic Type R the fastest front-wheel-drive car ever to run a lap at the legendary Nürburgring racetrack in Germany.
Despite its ferocious performance capabilities, the Civic Type R is surprisingly easy to live with as a daily driver. Adaptive dampers and a three-mode drive system keep the ride civilized on your commute. Its hatchback provides decent cargo space for a performance car. The Globe and Mail describes it as a “practical four-door hatchback” and says, “It’s not hard to imagine those Honda die-hards driving it every day.”
Plus, you won’t need to check a lot of option boxes to get a well-appointed cabin. The Civic Type R comes standard with a 12-speaker, 542-watt premium audio system, satellite navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, a multi-angle rearview camera, keyless entry/pushbutton start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth streaming audio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Suede-effect sport seats upholstered in Type R red keep you comfortable on the street and on the track. An aluminum shift knob and textured aluminum pedals complete the high-tech interior.
