Intelligent Multi-Information Display (I-MID)
Living in a world that is consistently being defined by technological advancement, it is no surprise that automakers are in a perpetual competition to be on the cutting edge. While modern vehicles can pretty much do anything but gently coax you out of bed in the morning and cook you breakfast on your way to work, Honda is leading the pack when it comes to intellectual systems. Their innovative i-MID system is a fully integrated infotainment structure that connects you to your vehicle for a completely personalized driving experience.
First things first, and the first step to understanding the i-MID is understanding that its name is an acronym for “Intelligent Multi-Information Display”. It is a fully interactive system with an interface that allows you to completely customize your drive. Much like your personal computer or smartphone, i-MID starts off by allowing you to upload two photos to use as a screen saver when the audio system is powered off.
Furthermore, it connects to you by being fully compatible with your personal electronics. Bluetooth capability allows for hands-free calling and music streaming, while the temptation to text while driving is removed by the i-MID’s built-in voice recognition SMS messaging system. The i-MID’s navigation system offers turn-by-turn directions to your every destination and back home again, and all models of vehicles that have an integrated backup camera will see the rear-view image displayed through the i-MID’s crystal clear thin film transistor 5-inch LCD display screen.
The i-MID further keeps you in touch with your vehicle’s functions by displaying such information as your current odometer mileage, current trip mileage, and fuel economy. It also displays the time and date and climate information as well as audio information such as your current radio station, radio data system information and CD track information.
Honda’s creative i-MID system can be found across most of its line-up, including the luxurious Honda Accord, Sporty Honda Civic, Honda CR-V and Honda Odyssey.
