When it comes to sleek sedans with sporty and efficient performance, safety, style, and reliability, no other vehicle holds a candle to the Honda Accord. First manufactured in 1976, and making its North American debut in 1989, the Accord has been turning heads and transporting both people and cargo with equal aplomb. As 2019 comes to an end we’re taking a look at the two different Honda Accord models available, the Sedan and Hybrid, to see what sets them apart, here at Edmonton’s favourite Honda dealer: Alberta Honda.
While Honda has long been known for creating efficient and environmentally-conscious vehicles, the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid might be one of the best. While staying true to its stylish roots, including 17” aluminum-alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, and LED taillights, brake lights, and fog lights, the Accord Hybrid is for those who love to see and be seen. Inside, perforated leather-trimmed seats find their way onto the options list, as do heated rear seats, while heated front seats are a standard feature. What truly separates the Accord Hybrid from the Accord Sedan is found under the hood. Honda’s Electric-Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT) manages the Hybrid’s two electric motors and gasoline engine, only using the gasoline engine when absolutely necessary. This results in the Accord Hybrid’s third-generation dual-motor hybrid powertrain delivering best-in-class fuel economy. That means not only are you still getting the same potent performance the Accord lineup has delivered for so many years, it means you’re also saving on fuel costs while saving the world—sounds like a win-win situation to us.
The newest addition to the storied Accord lineup, the 2020 Sedan has been redesigned to offer better aerodynamics and sleeker styling. Wide-set, on available 19” aluminum-alloy wheels, the 2020 Accord Sedan cuts through the air thanks to sharp angles and an aggressive front fascia. When the sun hits the dual exhaust ports, available in chrome, they share a knowing wink to all those in your rearview, while LED headlights and taillights turn the Accord Sedan into a beacon of style when the sun goes down. Not to be outdone in the performance realm by the Hybrid version, this Accord offers a choice between a turbocharged 1.5-litre, 16-valve Direct Injection DOHC i-VTEC® 4-cylinder, or an available 2.0-litre version. When matched to the Accord Sedan’s standard 6-speed manual, or available 10-speed automatic, you’ll feel like you’re driving a sports car in a sedan’s clothing.
The differences are subtle, but the Honda Accord Hybrid and Sedan each bring a bit of what’s made the Accord such a historic nameplate to their respective models. Currently, the 2019 Accord Hybrid is available in a Hybrid and Touring trim level, with a 2020 version racing its way to dealerships in 2020. Meanwhile, the Accord Sedan is offered in a greater variety of trims, from the LX to the Sport, EX-L, Touring, Sport 2.0, or Touring 2.0 trim. When choosing between the two models, you aren’t giving up anything in the way of performance or efficiency, but rather, gaining more of those stellar qualities depending on which you choose.
