Honda and Acura Relationship
Honda is all about moving forward and offering customers the latest and best in vehicles. You can’t stay stagnant in the automotive industry, which is why Honda decided to launch Acura. They’ve already staked a reputation of being reliable and affordable, both in their home country of Japan and abroad in North America. But Honda knew they needed something bigger to push them over the edge in the United States, with a lineup of vehicles to go after a new identity and to tackle the higher market customers. Enter Acura, bowing in March 1986 as Honda’s luxury vehicle brand. It became Japan’s first luxury vehicle brand, immediately touching down here in both Canada and the United States. Since both companies are so intrinsically linked, everything from its design elements, technology and engine specifications are found across both brands.
With the birth of Acura, Honda expertly wielded both sides of the proverbial automotive coin. Providing they’re heralded safe, everyday vehicles in the Honda brand, and now the premium luxury models they created with Acura. The Acura Legend was the first vehicle produced under the brand, a four-door option, along with the compact Integra, both of which were instant successes. Later on, SUV models like the RDX and MDX captured a modern market who prioritize crossover designs that give the best of both worlds in the middle-ground between a small and large vehicle, all in luxurious styling, inside and out. Acura vehicles evolved from Honda ingenuity, to become an extension of the concentrated innovative spirit that has served Honda’s automotive success for decades.
