No matter where you stand on the topic of climate change, Alberta Honda understands that change is needed to leave a better world for future generations. That’s why, as a proud Edmonton Honda dealership, we’re excited by the steps Honda Canada is taking toward a greener future. Read on as we look at some of the different initiatives that Honda—and Alberta Honda—is utilizing to lower our carbon footprint, and to make the world a better place.
Blue Skies for our Children
The first step Honda is taking toward a greener future is the Blue Skies for our Children initiative. Honda’s vision is that all future generations can experience the freedom of automotive travel, while still maintaining a sustainable society. This is done by reducing CO2 emissions, from our operations all the way to our vehicles—and not just in automotive. As a leader in efficient engines and transmissions, Honda is constantly working to design vehicles that do more with less. So whether it’s Honda’s use of four-stroke outboard motors since 1964 (up to 90% cleaner and 50% more efficient than two-stroke engines), or manufacturing plants like the one in Alliston, Ontario which has achieved its zero waste-to-landfill targets since 2007, you know Honda is doing their part to maintain blue skies for the kids.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Honda takes its environmental footprint seriously, which is why they strive to make the most environmentally-sound choices every chance they get. Honda’s Intelligent Paint Technology, for example, cuts emissions at the plant by 25%—and that’s just for paint! The Alliston, Ontario plant, once fully upgraded, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44% when all is said and done. Honda knows that they can’t improve the world until they improve their own backyard, which is why they choose to honestly acknowledge their effect on the environment. This has led Honda to become one of the first North American automakers to gain their ISO 14001 certification—the gold standard for environmental management systems.
The Future is Electric
In 2000, Honda was the first manufacturer to offer a hybrid model in Canada. With many more models on the way—like the Insight hybrid, or Plug-In Hybrid Electric Honda Clarity—Honda is well on their way to their goal of having two-thirds of their worldwide sales comprised of electrified vehicles. Making a true and concerted effort to push the standard of electric and hybrid vehicles, Honda is truly doing all they can to create a brighter, greener future, while still retaining the joy and freedom of driving.
