For over two decades the Honda CR-V has set the pace for the compact SUV class, and it’s still the leader. In fact, the 2018 Honda CR-V won the Most Innovative SUV Award from the judges at Edmunds.com. The folks at Edmunds have been providing automotive information and expert reviews since the organization was founded as Edmunds Publications in 1966, so they really know their stuff. They recognized The CR-V’s innovative blend of style, technology, performance and clever use of interior space as the best in class. Here at Alberta Honda in Edmonton, we agree with them one hundred percent. We invite you to come in for a test drive and experience the 2018 Honda CR-V for yourself.
Innovative, Clever Interior Space
According to Edmunds, “It’s the ubiquity of the 2018 Honda CR-V’s commitment to real-world usability that earns it the Edmunds CES Tech Driven Award for Most Innovative SUV of the Year.” For instance, the armrest on the centre console slides back to reveal a storage space that’s big enough for your laptop. But that’s not its only trick: the console’s front tray can be flipped around to make room for a good-sized bag or purse.
Edmunds says, “The CR-V is about the same size as its many competitors, but it’s so much bigger where it counts.” There’s plenty of room for five passengers with the rear seats’ up, but put down the 60/40 folding rear seats with the flip of a switch and you’ll discover a class-leading 2,146 litres of cargo volume. The cargo area even has two modes for loading: one mode enables flat loading across the whole area, while the other offers maximum loading capacity. An optional hands-free tailgate makes it even easier to load, powering the gate up automatically when you pass your foot under the rear bumper.
The Driving Experience
Edmunds also highlights the CR-V’s torque, saying that the CR-V “delivers ample low-end torque for smoothly scooting you through city streets.” Their reviewers also praised how it “expertly balances ride and handling.” But where it really shines is in the technology that it brings to the driving experience.
According to Edmunds, “Lane-keeping assistance, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert add a layer of safety to the daily commute, while adaptive cruise control that can work at low speeds makes that commute less annoying.” Entertainment comes from fully integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Edmunds makes special note of the fact that when using Google Maps, your turn-by-turn directions are displayed in the gauge cluster so that your eyes don’t need to look away from the road to see what turn is coming up. As their reviewers note, “That’s something you won’t find even in some pricey German luxury vehicles.”
To Sum it All Up…
Edmunds praises the CR-V for delivering the most comprehensive package of safety features and driving technology. They conclude by saying, “The CR-V’s many talents represent a deep understanding of how owners and families interact with their vehicles and true innovation among its peers.” But don’t just take their word for it–or ours!
